First Civilization

Source repository · Issues

First Civilization is a development Fabric mod for Minecraft Java in which players and the settlements they found create the world's first built history. Begin in untouched wilderness, develop knowledge and industry, establish Nether trade, and eventually construct the first End portal.

Development implementation; full campaign unavailable. Shared code builds for Minecraft Java 26.1.1 and 26.2, Fabric, and Java 25, with six shared regression tests per target. Initial world-generation/population hooks and natural Blaze/wart bootstrap are under runtime validation. An explicit standalone mode now supplies craftable reagent, pearls, recoverable portal frames, paired End travel, and a natural-island dragon encounter. Live Villages implements optional Tier 3/4 industry, but settlement-only campaign integration remains unfinished; complete Survival and multiplayer acceptance are still required.

Select standalone progression in Mod Menu before creating a fresh world for the independent route. The development pack player guide explains recipes, portal construction, and current limits. Existing world-rules-only saves retain their mode.

Intended Experience

  • Natural terrain, caves, ores, plants, and wildlife remain in every dimension; prebuilt settlements, ruins, loot containers, and other artificial generation do not.
  • Endermen do not spawn. Their eventual origin in the player/villager civilization is campaign lore, not an implemented transformation mechanic.
  • Blazes spawn in natural Nether environments so players can obtain rods and begin brewing without fortresses.
  • Wandering Traders become eligible only after at least three populated civilian Overworld settlements reach Tier 2 or higher.
  • Tier 3 settlements develop Cleric-led alchemy to manufacture Ender pearls, supported by Scribe knowledge and a fueled Brewing Stand.
  • Tier 4 settlements with working trade routes to Nether settlements produce Eyes of Ender and portal-frame components.
  • Entering the End is a milestone; defeating the redesigned dragon completes the campaign and is required for the first release.

The reviewed spec defines playable provisional recipes, research costs, and spawn rates. Multiplayer testing will tune them.

Companion Mods

  • Distant Starts assigns separated wilderness starts and is undergoing multiplayer validation.
  • Live Villages owns settlement founding, residents, civic tiers, professions, production, knowledge, and trade routes.
  • First Civilization owns the untouched-world rules and campaign restrictions. Its world rules should work independently; the full settlement progression requires the future Live Villages integration.
